Animate one bird rather than 2, don't overcomplicate it to start with. Once one bird has been added, you could add another bird afterwards.
Start to think about animating the background to make them come alive more and blend better. Focus less on animating animals and more the background for a weeks work.
Have more isolated characters.
Don't tie your work down too early, continue to experiment with different things and you can have more of a focus after Christmas or something.
You need to somehow tie your traditional work and digital work better together examples of ways to do this are the following:
Print the frames, work over the top of the frames traditionally then scan back in
Decrease the opacity of the characters to show the background through better
Including the sketch layer on the final drawing
