Sound Treatment - 5 Seconds a Week

To do the final touches for my animations, I wanted to focus on the sound of each animation.

Week 1 - Test Animations

Bouncing Ball

  • Sound when the ball impacts the surface

  • Sound to imply the material of the ball - Squishy/flexible material

Cat

  • Feet walking on surface

  • Swish of tail

  • Confident walk - could be upbeat "on a mission" backing sound

Veronica Walk

  • Feet walking on surface

  • Confident/Masculine walk - can also be a "got a job to do" sound

  • At highest point, she could have clipped her foot on something - making her have a stronger up, but plays it off.

Bird

  • Flapping of wings

  • background sounds of birds - as a flock bird

Week 2 - The Love Bird

Additions:

  • more obvious/prominent panoramic sound - e.g. position of the fountain

  • Flapping of wings

  • A melody to give more dynamic movement e.g. -

Week 3 - Pumpkin and the Ghost

Additions:

  • Leaves crunching with turnaround

  • Spectral sounds for the ghost

  • more obvious/prominent panoramic sound - e.g. church bells

  • possibly remove crows as there is no reference to this in the animation

  • A spooky/peaceful background melody e.g.

Week 4 - Making the Background come to Life

  • static from the TV

  • ambient sound of an apartment

  • record player could be playing

  • fire burning

  • bubble from the goldfish bowl

  • clock ticking and possibly the chime of a clock

  • ambient sound of an apartment

An instrumental song like an opening could work to introduce the viewer to this quirky and unique environment, with a similar quirky unique style to complement the world.

Similar to the Bojack Horseman theme -

Week 5 - Etsy Promotion

  • clicking beforehand e.g. like she's typing away, or looking through the website

  • tail hitting the table

  • apartment background sound

  • a tune when the sale pops up e.g. trumpets like an announcement

Input from a Music Technology Graduate:

"Waking up on a Picnic Blanket" is a song I was recommended and the style is what I want Veronica and George's world to resemble. I hope to use this sort of style in the future, with my next project.

The song "SINY" recommended to influence the sound of the 'Etsy Promotion' animation.

The sound in 'Tuca and Bertie' is also a similar style I want to include within my next project because of its clear influence but also similar style.

Week 6 - Traditional Animation Experimentation

  • cat purring

Week 7 - Christmas

  • fire crackling

  • cat purring

  • Christmas songs
